A photographic highlight selected by the picture desk. Gertrude Käsebier was one of the most influential American photographers of the early twentieth century. Her photographs of mothers and children and her simplified portraits such as this one of Rodin were widely acclaimed. She was a founder-member of the Photo-Secession which was led by Alfred Stieglitz. She died on this day in 1934
